Intern Chronicles: David Lind, former firefighter turned aspiring UI/UX designer

My name is David Lind, and I'm thrilled to introduce myself as one of the newest interns at Treyarch. For the next few months, I will have the opportunity to work behind the scenes and contribute to the creation of a gaming experience that will inspire players worldwide. Needless to say, that is pretty darn cool!

Throughout my life, video games have consistently ignited my imagination, serving as a dynamic form of artistic expression. My journey here, however, has been quite unexpected. In my high school years, my dad worked as a game dev, and I always admired his craft. However, I never thought I would follow in his footsteps in the gaming industry. Previously, I served as a big city firefighter and expected to retire in that field. Unfortunately, injuries and life circumstances took me on a different path. Though I'm grateful for my time as a firefighter and the unforgettable experiences it brought, these unexpected changes were just new doors opening. They made me remember my passion for art, design, and creative pursuits. I enrolled in a UX immersive course with General Assembly, where I discovered my love for UX design.

When I came across the Treyarch internship application, I saw it as an incredible opportunity. I gave my all during the interview, hoping for the best but preparing for any outcome. Now, I am sincerely grateful for this chance to be a part of Treyarch. The company's people and the positive culture they've built are truly inspiring.

Lastly, I'd like to speak to those who, like me, are looking for a new career later in life. Don't hold back. Let go of your ego and embrace the joys of lifelong learning. You never know what exciting possibilities may await when you take a leap of faith. Life has a way of surprising us and leading us down fulfilling paths we never expected.

I want to give a big shoutout to David Duckworth, Ian Loyd, and everyone in the UX department for all the help and guidance you’ve given me. It’s going to be a fun three months!
